Are not the sacraments simply God's showing us the fruit of
our Salvation, are they not simply here to show us that we
are being saved by Him, are they not gifts to help us with
assurance, yet they are worthwhile in our reliance on God. Yes, they save us via obedient faith, yet it is God who saves.
All our lives are worthwhile in reliance on God. We ourselves
are hardly capable of wisdom without His aid. We are
helpless, yet have the simplest opportunity. We can "weather
the perfect storm" without God, but that is a deluded
approach.
We can weather the perfect storm (our lives) with its maker.
Do not rely on your own understanding, rely solely on God.
A christian Answer to such
Rely on God, as this answer shows
Quoted from http://www.catholic.com/library/assurance_of_salvation.asp
""Are you saved?" asks the Fundamentalist. The Catholic
should reply: "As the Bible says, I am already saved
(rom.8:24, Eph2:5-8), but I'm also being saved (1cor 1:8, 2
cor 2:15, Phil 2:12), and I have hope that I will be saved
(Rom r:9-10,1 Cor 3:12-15). Like the apostle Paul I am
working out my salvation in fear and trembling (phil. 2:12),
with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ( Rom. 5:2,
2 Tim : 11-13)"
